I wanted to see if I could get some information about the perfusionist scope of practice. Do perfusionist operate on a degree of autonomy or do they rely on direct physician oversight? Do they operate off of patient care protocols?

Also, i have been looking around at perfusionist jobs evaluating the job market and I noticed that several places hired a PA. Is this common practice or an upcoming trend? I have little interest in becoming a PA. I am eager to have an in depth knowledge of the cardiac and pulmonary systems.

Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to your responses.
