Electronic Perfusion Charting.

Completely leaving paper behind is realistically improbable. Although, “going paperless” is more than just a trendy misnomer. Eliminating excess paperwork has a range of benefits. Simply reducing the time spent on record keeping should be reason enough. Moving to an electronic record can provide real and measureable performance and efficiency improvements that will benefit the perfusionist, the facility and ultimately the patient.

Patient details can be added prior to the procedure. Frequently used medications, staff or other details can be configured and reused to save time. Capture data directly from pumps or other equipment. Reports can be printed ad hoc, or emailed in PDF form. The sheer space required in maintaining patient records can be reduced to a hard drive. There are so many ways to improve your processes that there really is no reason to avoid making the change to a paperless system. If we fail to adapt, the industry will leave us behind.

Perfusion Pro

After spending decades as a Perfusionist, I wanted a way to collect events that didn’t interfere with the actual work but provided complete documentation of each procedure. I wanted to develop a reliable platform to collect comprehensive patient medical records and case events. Perfusion Pro needed to include standardized data formatting and the ability to capture live-data directly from the equipment. It had to be simple, and focused on eliminating redundant steps.

Simple & Easy to use

Installation is easy, just download and run the self-installer. Perfusion Pro offers simple forms for data collection, similar to those found on any modern website. With large buttons, the interface performs great on a touchscreen device. Patient data can be collected prior to the actual procedure or entered by the Perfusionist. Robust yet flexible, Perfusion Pro can capture the bare minimum or provide complete medical record keeping.

Eliminate Redundancy

As a perfusionist, our work encompasses a variety of tasks. We must leverage our experience against the challenges that we face in every case, ensuring the most positive outcome we can offer. Among the assigned tasks Perfusionists face is collecting and creating a log detailing events during procedures. We often spend hours within the procedure, only to spend more time finishing a report. Eliminating the extended hours spent entering data into a spreadsheets will improve productivity.

The Power of Data

Following the latest STS database standards, the data collected can be compared and charted much more easily. Capture comprehensive patient details, demographic information and a variety of medical details. Patterns and trends can be tracked, providing users with invaluable feedback and improving patient outcome. Users can document the entire case with events logged directly from equipment. Add custom notation during live events, log medications administered, or change staff or equipment at any time. Create a complete patient record with medical history and case logs.

The simple truth is that the data we collect could be used to save lives and improve patient outcome. It isn’t just a requirement to provide an electronic medical record, but an opportunity to enhance our profession. Contact us today to find out how you can make your day a little easier.

It is time for perfusonists to look for a solution. Otherwise software engineers will design something not knowing the demands of perfusionists. It has to be has to have lots of has to be priced to be affordable and it has have the option to collect all the information that needs to be on a perfusion record, to include available STS data. PDS Perfusion Pro 2.0 is that solution, and it is available for review as a free trial. Just go to for the download. It was designed by a seasoned perfusionist with input from other perfusionists.
