hi everybody
i have a question:
why does the perfusionist write the time on the blood unit if he/she doesn't use the whole bag during surgery?
some of them told me that after 4 hours from the usage of the blood unit , they won't use the rest of it.. but why??
thanks for the help :)

AABS regulations require blood units to be used within 4 hours of being removed from a regulated refrigerator. After 30 minutes of being removed, the unit can no longer be returned into inventory in the blood bank. After 4 hours, the blood is no longer at a safe storage temperature and will start deteriorating. It will result in an unsafe product.
Once the bag is spiked, it must be used within the 4 hours, any product left over must be discarded
