This is a question regarding Angiomax and its uses "off label".   How are other institutions who use Angiomax for CPB getting around the fact that it has not been approved by the FDA for use on CPB?

We have a new interim OR Director who is telling me that if it is not FDA approved for CPB then we can't use it. He states "it's legal".  I explained about how it is used "off label" and is an accepted perfusion community standard for use in CPB and HiTT's patients. Is anyone using an informed consent regarding benefits and risks with the use of Angiomax per sea, or are your surgeons just writting an order for the drug in place of heparin?

I need to present Angiomax's efficacy within the CPB arena to the Director and what the standard is for the perfusion community.  Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using Trasylol? That is "off lable". Let your surgeon/anesthesiologist handle it.
