In my opinion, it's not a good idea. Doing anything to take your attention away from where it should be - on the pump - could be potentially disastrous. Multi-tasking is an important trait for a perfusionist to possess, and there will be times where your attention will be divided between several areas (the pump, someone asking you a question unrelated to CPB, a ringing phone that the surgeon insists you answer, etc.), but one's full attention should be given to the pump run. Before and after CPB is a much more appropriate time for social networking.

People get worked up on the road when they see other drivers on their cell phone. How could bypass be any less important of an activity?

In my opinion it is not a good idea. You divid your attention in too many direction. It is enough the HLM and all the additional data you receving from surgen and anesthesiologist

well it depends on the case you running..
however, the idea is rejected, since you distract your attention away of the case and we all know the we have only 15 seconds to avoid emptying the reservoir..
